Monica was born in Punjab but her parents immigrated to Norway when she was 10 months old. In 1992, Monica Bedi joined Oxford university to study English Literature. At Oxford she met the well-known actor Manoj Kumar and probably that fuelled her interest in Bollywood.Some of these are Surakshaa, Ashique Mastaane, Pyar Ishq aur Mohabbat, Jaanam Samjha Karo, and Jodi No 1.
